wont go in the basement

Question
We've been "baby-sitting" our son's 5-yr old Lab since April.  She has always come in the basement with us until one week ago.  She was trying to hide under computer table like she does when it thunders (not thundering the whole week).  We have her bed down here and her toys.  Now, she comes to the bottom of the steps, maybe takes one or two steps into the basement but then goes upstairs.  Nothing new in the house.  I don't know what to do for her.  Any ideas?  Thank you.

Answer
Hi Nancy,

Something obviously spooked your dog and we really have no way of guessing. Have you tried feeding her in the basement and better yet, giving her something really wonderfully yummy for coming into the basement, like a well-stuff kong that she can work on for about 30 minutes? Something to remind her that good things happen in the basement.

Good luck,

Jaz
