Dog pees in my house

Question
I have a MAltese almost 3 years old. He goes through fases when he will be all over the house. Usually against the leg of a chair or couch as though he is marking his territory. He never does this in front of us...we have a feeling it is done when we are gone. He is never left more than 4 hours on his own. I have caught him doing it when I have braught him with me to a friend's house....he might sneak a pee against the corner of a wall....How do I stop this??? I have had to throw carpets away because of it. It is not because he cannot hold himself....he can go a 10 hour night on our bed. Please help...any advice will be appreciated!!!

Answer
Hello Isabelle,

It does definitely sound like he's marking his territory. Did you know that dogs lift there legs and try to pee as high as possible to indicate to other dogs that they are tall and therefore should be feared?

Anyway, regarding your problem, has he been neutered? If he hasn't I suggest that my be your answer.

Good Luck!
