My sheltie puppy

Question
Hi Alan,
I just got a sheltie puppy from a pet store, and he is 2 months-year old.
The bad thing is my husband and I have to go to work from 8:00am to 5:00pm, so we have to left him at home by itself.
He barks a lot if we put him into his crate.
He didn't have a potty schedule yet, so I can't allow him to stay out of the crate all day long.
I don't know how to train him about the bathroom business and how to keep him quiet and feel more comfortable to stay at home along.
Also, I need some suggestions about feeding him food. I don't know how much food I should give him, what kind of food and how many times I should feed him.
This is my first time to have a dog, so I don't have a lot knowledge about it. Please give me some tips and suggestions. I really need your help. Thank you very much.

Answer
Hi Tiffany,

Thanks for writing. Your questions are thoughtful. Learning about raising a pup can be a wonderful adventure, but there's lots to learn. Please visit my website for information about house training and many other tips for raising a puppy. Consider purchasing the book, Puppy Primer.

Ask your vet about the food, he or she is better equipped to give you an accurate answer. Good luck with your puppy! Thanks for writing.
