Question
My just 4 month old standard poodle chews pinhe cones, leaves, twigs and just about anything that is not nailed down when he goes outside for his business or just walking - how can i stop him and sometimes I don't even see he has anything in his mouth - he's very fast.Thank you, Carol Donohoe

Answer
Puppies investigate everything with their mouths.  He's old enough to go to class and learn the "leave it" cue:-))  Avoid grabbing things out of his mouth, lest you make him "guardy" about his stuff.  You can carry some tidbits with you (I use Cheerios because they don't make my pockets stink) and "trade" for the forbidden objects.  By teaching him to trade, you also increase the chances that when you say that word, he will drop what he has to come get his reward.
Also, don't make a big deal of it when he has something he shouldn't have - be matter of fact, otherwise you could make the forbidden object seem even more special, which is not what you want puppy to think.
