shock collars/bark collars

Question
I am considering a bark collar or possibly a shock collar.  I have a mixed breed dog, approximately 65-70 pounds wemiereiner/dane mix.  She is very high strung, needy and I think has separation anxiety.  When she is let outside, she almost immediately is jumping AT the door or the windows of the house.  She has been digging very large holes in the yard and seems to have difficulty relaxing.  Are the bark collars and shock collars safe for dogs?  Also, are they effective?
Thank you in advance.

Answer
I would not use an electronic collar for this-if she is already anxious and the collar is not used correctly, you could worsen the issue.

How much exercise is she getting?  Weims are very hyper dogs with an abundance of energy, and both breeds you mentioned have strong working drives.  You may be dealing with boredom as well.  Check your area for some activities such as agility, flyball, tracking or something else that will challenge her both physically and mentally.

I would also recommend getting her into an obedience class if you haven't already, as that will help the boredom by giving her a job.
