Question
We are having trouble with our 3 mo. old lab sleeping through the night.  She goes in her crate at 10:00 p.m. and is up again at 1:30, 4:30, 5:30 a.m.  How can we get her to sleep through the night.  We take her for a 4 mile walk in the evening hoping this will tire her out!  At wits end!

Answer
Is she wakingup because she needs to go to the bathroom, Debbie? At 3 months, some puppies still can't hold it all night long, and the times you are saying she is waking up do correspond with her age, as far as potty breaks go.

When do you feed her, and when do you take up her water bowl in the evenings? I suggest not feeding her or allowing her access to water for 3 hours leading up to bedtime. Then, you can take her out right before you go to bed and make sure she potties #1 and #2. That way, she will be less likely to need to go in the middle of the night.

What have you currently been doing when she wakes you up?
