Snarling behavior

Question
Hello Kristen,

I adopted a female poodle 10-pound eight-year-old from a friend who had her since puppyhood. She is generally a sweet dog and knows many tricks.

However, on some occasions she snarls and bites, but no pressure on the bite, just puts her teeth on. Also, when out of doors, on leash, she wimpers and snarls at larger dogs. She really goes after them and must be restrained.

Any ideas on how to cure her of this behavior?

best,

Answer
Dave, I cannot answer your question based on the information you have given me, and without actually seeing her behavior in person. I would suggest that you contact a local trainer that can work with you and your dog and determine exactly what is triggering her behavior, and then figure out a way to correct it.
