puppy litter box

Question
Hi Anne. I have a new 2 month old, female, not spayed pug. I am teaching it to use a litter box and have been ..... sorta successful. My puppy constantly fights with my kitten and i was wondering if this will ever stop. (By the way, my kitten is a 7 month old, nuetered, male kitten). Also, after I have litter box trained my dog, should i crate train it so when i am away (which is weekdays from 8-4) and keep her in her crate or should i let her play and roam free around the house with my cat if they start fighting?

Sorry for all the questions, but i am a new, unexperianced dog owner and i just want what is best for my pets

Answer
With puppies, I would use the crate when you aren't there.  Fighting with kitties isn't the only danger for puppies.  They put everything in their mouths, like toddlers, and some have died because they chose to chew on the wrong things.
As to cats and dogs fighting, usually it stops when the kitty swats the pup's nose with those sharp claws.  But, sometimes not.  Always provide a place for the cat where the dog cannot follow, and you should be ok.  After all, this is a Pug, not a Husky, and Pugs usually aren't that predatory, mostly just playful.  But, puppies do play rough.
