Question
how do i stop my 2 year old staffy from crying at night when we have gone to bed. He barks and cries when left on his own to go to bed

Answer
Hello!

Unfortunately I don't know WHERE you keep the dog when you go to bed. Laundry rooms, garages, behind baby gates, kitchens and/or back yards aren't appropriate as it demonstrates isolation, which is something the domestic canine frowns upon.

I suggest proper crate training as dogs are denning animals who will find comfort in sleeping in a snug, secure crate. I assume you're the same owner who asked me a second question about fence jumping (Which I'll get to in just a moment), meaning the dog's rather a new member of your household ergo pack.

Here are two very easy to understand links about WHY and HOW to crate train. I love referring the links as they are easy to understand and it's cute animations often relax anxious dog owners while reading. =0)

Crates are also important for boundary training, potty training and to give positive "Calm down time" if the dog's gone a bit to hyper, so he/she can quickly settle down. Crates are NEVER used for punishment and dogs are only crated inside the house in cool, dry areas (Draft free). My favorite spot for crates are living rooms, the social areas of the house. Leaving your dog in it's crate there, leaving the TV running (Sound turned down a bit) gives your dog the idea you're still there and proper crate training goes 1-2-3.

Here are the links and congratulations on your new adoption!!
