chiauaua is going potty around house(instead of using litterbox) since new baby came home

Question
our 10 year old Chihuahua has used her litterbox faithfully- never having any mistakes before. Now that we have our first baby home for 2 1/2 months, she has started to potty around the house, not choosing to go in her litterbox sometimes. We try to give her as much attention as before the baby , but cannot possibly give her all the attention she used to have, as we have our hands full taking care of our newborn. Please help. I am currently telling her no when I see her potty where she is not suppose to, and putting her in her travel carrier with the door shut for 5 minute punishment , immediately after her misbehaving occurs.

Answer
Dogs often regress in their house training when there are significant changes in the household, such as new babies, moving, divorce, death of another dog or person, etc.  Be patient, and don't punish - you don't want your dog to associate your unpleasant demeanor with the presence of the new baby, or to become afraid to pee/poo in front of you or in the right spot.  Instead, go back to house training 101 (http://www.ddfl.org/behavior/retrain-dog.pdf)
and clean any mistakes up with Petastic or Nature's Miracle.  She should eventually get used to the new routines.  As your baby grows, however, the best way to protect the baby is to protect your dog from the baby, so always supervise all their interactions.
