Question
Hello I hope you can help me, my shar-pei puppy is 8 months old and I can not believe how quick she is to pick up things she is so clever when doing tricks, on the lead etc. the only problem I have with her is training her not to pee in the house when I am in work, I stopped using puppy pads around a month ago but she still pee's where the puppy pad used to be and I am not sure how to teach her that this is now wrong, I'm also not sure if I am expecting to much of her as when we are at home she cries to go out, would her bladder be strong enough yet to hold it till I get home? she doesn't pee all night and knows to hold that till the morning I just want her to have the same understanding in the day, any suggestions please?

Answer
Hello Vicky:

I am going to assume you are gone from home for about 7 to 9 hours, and yes this would be too long, especially for a young dog.

Even though a dog can hold it all night, that is sleep time, and quiet time, so like us humans they can hold it all night if sleeping.

Also as you say she is asking when you are home to go outside, and during the day while you are at work uses the area where her puppy pads were, all would indicate it's just a matter of time.

I would suggest a dog walker comes while your at work to let her out for a Potty break.

Forcing a young dog to hold it all day can lead to bladder issues later in life, as the bladder is damaged from forced holding.
