SMELLING SENSE

Question
I recently went to my aunt's funeral.  My cousin told me the night they came back from the hospital when she died, her dog "Scotty" was howling & crying throughout the night; she said that her dog smelled the scent that caused him to cry.   Is this true, can dogs smell the scent of their masters after they have died?   I am very curious to know the details about this topic.

Thank you, Jeanie.

Answer
Dear Jeanie

Science is just beginning to understand what animals are capable of mentally. So to believe an animal could grieve is gaining acceptance. Animal handlers have long recognized the emotional side of the animals they work with. It will take advance technology and many years to truly answer if animals grieve but lets give them the benefit of the doubt for now.

Ask your veterinarian about where you can get information about animal greaving
