Question
Hi Nancy

We have just brought home a 7 week old female cocker spaniel pup, we currently have a 1 1/2yr old male cocker spaniel, who has been neutered. I'm not sure if he is being aggressive towards her or just playing rough. She yelps a bit and he doesn't seem to back off and other times he just completely ignores her. I try not to scold him but do get between them as I'm worried he'll hurt her? He has been socialized with other dogs. She is very tiny compared to him - I keep them separated when I'm not there. How do I get him to be more gentle with her? Should I keep them separated until she gets a bit bigger?

Thanks for your help

Answer
Triona...well if you didnt have the dog yet i would have told you to introduce them outside in a neutral place not in the male's territory. I would not seperate them either though...keep the pup in a seperate crate but near the other so he can get used to her. I dont think there is anything to worry about but try this and see what happens. nancy
