My two year old female pomeranian is peeing in her kennel/bed

Question
My female dog is constantly peeing in her kennel. She will be 2 years old soon and she is potty-trained. We put her outside before we put her to bed in her kennel and right when she gets in her bed she will pee on her bedding. I don't understand if its a territory marking thing or something else. We have two other dogs as well and they do not do this. Please let me know if there is something to do to fix this because we are constantly having to change her bedding because she does this.

Answer
Hi Kryssi-

Yes, it sounds like she is marking her territory. Males aren't the only ones who think that way ;)

There are a few things that you can try.

One, dont give her any bedding. Let her sleep for a while on the bare crate. If she goes a week without peeing, let her have her bed back. If she pees, take it away. Eventually, she will learn she won't have a bed if she keeps peeing on it.

Two, take a handful of dry food, or cat food if she isn't highly food motivated (Cat food has a much stronger smell) and roll it around in the blankets. Leave some of the food in the blankets, make sure it is tucked into corners etc. Most dogs will not soil a place where there is food, and she will be busy trying to get all the little nubbins out.

Three, diaper her. Put a diaper on her and let her pee, she will pee on herself. Since she is trying to mark her territory, she will turn around after she pees to check if she marked. Won't she be suprised  that there is no pee! After a couple of weeks, she will figure out there is no point in marking her territory because it doesn't work. When you are able to pull the diaper off her and it is dry for a few days in a row, try a night with the diaper off.

I hope some of this works for you! Good luck!
