Question
hi! I just got my two yorkshire terrier puppies home on Sunday- and despite doing lots of reading and research, I am in a slight panic with regards training TWO pups together. They are 9 weeks old- and should I seperate them already? or can i wait a week or two? SHould I be using verball commands at this early stage? or just removing them or distracting them (ie- if they are chewing something, replacing it with a chew toy?). I have started feeding them seperately already, and this seems to be going ok...
The female whines a huge amount when I leave her on her own, or if I seperate them from one  another- the male usually seems indifferent. I dont want to respond to her too much, as I am afraid I may reinforce this behaviour, but I dont want her to become very anxious if they, or she is seperated from each other, or from us.
Aside from keeping them in sepearte crates etc. do you have any suggestions that could help me bond with the puppies individually? Any games I can play etc.? I brush them seperately etc..
In advance- many, many thanks for your time and response,

Majellaa

Answer
It is a good idea to sperate them a lot esp the first 6 months,as they will bond to each other, making training more difficult, but it can be done

Giving them seperate crates and time away from each other for at least 3 hours a day-they will get used to it over time

Giving them things they can chew on are the best toys-'fetching' is a good game for them to distract them, also 'kong' toys are great and you can stick peanut butter in it and will keep them busy licking the toy ect
