Dog eating lizards

Question
I recently acquired a Pom.  My first dog and he is now 6 mths. He has changed my life completely.  I am now reactivating our SPCA here and distributing leaflets on animal care and love etc.

We live in Zambia and there are lots of house lizards/geckos around.  I need to know what to do if my "Skippy" catches and eat one.  He is supervised 24 hrs a day and someone is constantly on the lookout.  However when he is in the garden, he is too fast for us to catch and could quickly eat it before he can be caught.

Would be most grateful for any info on this.  Are they poisonou when ingested ?

There are hardly any Poms in the country, hence Vets are more used to dealing with large dogs and cattle. Thanks very much

Answer
Hello Shahida,

I am sorry that I can't give you an answer to your question.  I don't know enough about reptiles to know whether they are harmful or not.  I would check with your local wildlife park rangers and ask them.  As far as veterinarians in Zambia dealing with larger dogs, Poms are made up with the same physiology as other dogs so I don't know why a vet could not help you.

Best wishes for your involvement with the SPCA.

Hope you find the answers you are searching for.
