Starting Up

I was wondering how to i start up my own kennel.I love the APBT breed and i would like to start my own kennel.Any information on how i should get started and what i should do correctly would be helpfull.

I do not recommend that anyone start their own kennel, no matter how much they love the breed. I only say this because there seems to be an overwhelming overpopulation problem with APBTs as it is. You would not believe how many purebred dogs end up in shelters because the breeders cannot place them or they place them with irresponsible people who turn them over to the shelter later.

Breeding is much more intensive than most people realize. It isn't just a matter of getting one papered dog together with another papered dog. Serious amounts of time and work are poured into researching the lines of prospective sires/dams, making sure that those dogs are really worth breeding, and lining up homes prior to the litter even being conceived.

I cannot keep you from starting a kennel, but it is my opinion that you should refrain from doing so. If you choose to do so, I recommend that you first spend some time working with an already well-established and reputable breeder.
