glucosamine for labrador retrievers

Question
I have a 10 yr old male yellow lab.  We suspect he is getting arthritis; one hip is sore from time to time.  He has been taking Rimadyl for pain.  What about glucosamine?  How much, and is it ok to give him the same glucosamine that I take?

Answer
Nobody knows everything.  I don't have solid answers to your question.  I have wondered about it for my 13 year old Lab.  My friends have her mother on it and she is doing better now than before.

My vet has me putting a cap full of peroxide in a gallon of her drinking water.  It seems to help.  Right now I am giving her Prednisone.  It has made a big difference. More so in the evening.  It is much easier to get her to make her trip outside before bed time.

If you do try the glucose amine, perhaps give him half as much if he weighs half as much as you do.  I usually avoid medicating my dogs without the advice of my vet.
