Question
How do I train my lab to go to the bathroom outside and in the crate.  He has had a couple of accidents on the floor.  I take him outside for long periods and he won't go most of the time.  He will go in the crate if he has been in there while we are out of the house or during the night when he is there so he can not explore the house while we are sleep.  Please help me.

Answer
you d not want teh dog peeing or pooping in his crate! THe crate is whats supposed toh elp in hosuetrainnig by making the dog hold it until he is let outsdie to potty!. you will need to bleach his crate to get any residing smells out and place awarm blanket in it with a toy or two and some food wehn yuor gone enver any water, You failed to mention how old yuor lab is? young 8 week old puppies can only hold it for about 1 hours belvie me i ahev potty trained three dogs and know all about it, You enver want to dog to go in his crate the trick is the dog Doesnt want to soil his sleeping area...who would? and that he muist hold on until someone cna let him out. Genrally by 7-8 months the dog can hold it fine without any problems for an 8 hour work day, you will need to come home from work a few hours early or at lunch to elt the dog go out and potty or this will enver work. You can also use a puppy play pen with 36 or 48 inch sides instead of a crate then you cna have a ssleeeping area/potty area(papers or pads) a play and eating/drinknig area this worked great for my boston terreir who is now 7 months old and potty trained fully, You can use a leash for otdoor potty breaks instead of having the puppy wonder off on you whiel yuor trying to teach him to go potty, This worked fien for my Jack russell terrier in our large yard i would have lost him in teh snow bank that winter! Take teh puppy out after he eats/drinks/plays/sleeps or is jsut hanging aroun d for over 45 minutes the dog will cyrle or sniff the floor when he needs to go and if you dont get him outside right then and there he will go on your carpet. Never spank the dog or rub its nose in its mess because YOU missed his potty break time if you follow these instrustions for potty trainnig he will be a perfect pet but if you miss letting him out after he drinks or wakes up its yuor fault there a mess on the floor not his when he is this young he is easy to train but if nonoe is there when hes got to go hes going to go on the floor.
