Jack Russell digging in her crate

Question
Hi,my Jack puppy is 6 months old.She is crate trained and is happy to go into her crate.I'm at home most of the day so it's used mainly at night and for travelling.Tess chooses to go into her crate for naps sometimes when the house is a bit hectic. When Tess was between 9 and 13 weeks old she cried and howled every night,we tried everything and after a month I waited outside the kitchen door until she started to cry and dig, then I opened the door and issued a firm "No" and closed the door again. She was great from then on,no crying,no digging. She has recently started the digging behaviour again at night and first thing in the morning. We have fussed her alot and I'm wondering if we need more discipline and less fuss to get her out of it again. She gets walked several times a day by myself and has plenty of playtime.Other than this nighttime problem she is a wonderful girl.
Thankyou
Tracy

Answer
Hi Tracy,
She was probably howling and crying because she was alone in the kitchen, not necessarily the crate. They are pack animals and do much better when allowed to sleep in the same area as her family. Why don't you move the crate into your bedroom?  If this just won't work for you and your family, you could try repeating the discipline you started with her. She sounds wonderful, good luck.
