Finding a home for our dog?

Question
Last summer, my family bought a new golden retriever puppy.  She will be one year old soon.  She's a nice dog, but we have discivered by having her in our home that we are not all that interested in keeping her for years and years.  She's a lot of work to take care of.  We're all very busy and really don't have the time or interest necessary to give her good care.

Any thoughts on finding her a good home?  Or, any thoughts on making it easier to take care of her?

Answer
If she is friendly to strangers, comfortable around traffic, and healthy, a service dog school might be happy to have her.  Good health and sound temperament are much more important than any training the dog may have had.  She could ba a handicapped persons ticket to increased mobility.  It is a great life for a dog, they have a person to spend 24/7 with them that loves them.  Try searching for service dogs schools near you starting at http://www.iaadp.org  If you give me your location, I may be able to to be more specific.  Different schools have different needs, and how interested they are at any one time depends on what they have on hand.  If the kennel if full, they may turn away a very good dog.  If the first school isn't interested, try another one.

Not all dogs have the qualities needed as a service dog, but will still make a great pet.  Many people take dogs needing a good home, retrain them if needed, and keep them until they find a home right for them.  You may find a rescue near you starting at http://www.akc.org/breeds/rescue.cfm
