alpha dog??

Hi,  I have two male dogs that fight quite a bit.
They are both shepherd/huskies, the oldest is 10
and looks husky, the youngest is 3 and looks shepherd. The oldest one was the boss at one time but the younger dog has grown to be much bigger and the old fella cannot handle him anymore. We live in the country and the dogs have the run of a
couple of acres that are invisibly fenced. The old
dogs disposition is not near as good as the young
ones and he keeps instigating fights even though
he almost always loses. They fight more around my
wife and are even worse if there is noisy equipment around. ( 4 wheeler or diesel tractor )
I think we need to get rid of the old dog. My plan
is to get a female pup so we don't have this 'alpha' power struggle anymore. Your advice?

Yes, you have a real problem, but one boy and a girl will not fight or compete.  Raising a puppy to fit your needs is much better than getting an adult.
Find a good breeder or rescue a puppy from a shelter and you will not have this bickering and fighting.  It is for domanince they are fighting for.
