QuestionWe are sorry, but Dawn Spoolman wasn't able to answer your question:
---------------------------------------
I am looking for a good puppy food for my Aristotle. He is 6 1/2 months old. I have been feeding him Royal Canin. My friend is getting a Costco brand that he says is similiar. I compared:
Costco........ 356 kcal/cup
Chicken is the first ingredient
Crude Protein - 28%
Fat - 17%
Fiber 3%
Moisture 10%
Royal Canin.......377 kcal/cup
Chicken meal is the first ingredient
Protein - 32%
Fat - 14%
Fiber - 3.8%
Moisture - 10%
(This one has Chrondroitin Sulfate and Glucosamine Hydocholoride)
Is one of these better than the other or the same.
Is there a good (econonical) brand to buy?
Thank you for your responce.
Patricia
AnswerWhat ever you switch to, make it an adult chow. Puppy chow is too rich leading to excessively fast growth stressing growing joints. There is a lot more evidence that dogs do fine on lower cost chows than that they do any better on the expensive ones such as Royal Canin. All the service dogs schools feed something like Pro Plan or Iams. They have experience with thousands of dogs to base their decision on and evey incentive to see to it their dogs are all eating a good diet. As long as the Costo chow passes AAFCO tests, likely your dog will do just as well on it as the Royal Canin.
Something such as Purina One would be fine for the dog and your pocketbook, but leave you larger softer stools to clean up.
