German Sheperds and Ferrets

Question
If a GSD is raised from 6weeks old with ferrets is there a pretty good chance that she will not harm them? The ferrets are very dog friendly as they love the dog we already have. We do let the ferrets have free run of the house a couple of hours a day and would like to keep doing this. They do like to play chase and general ruffhousing with the dog we have now. Would it be a good idea to start the puppy out with this kind of behaviour from the ferrets?

Answer
Hi Joyce,  This all depends on how much prey drive your GSD has.  It depends on the breeding.  Some GSDs have more prey drive than others, so it can be dangerous for the ferrets as the pup matures once their prey drive starts to come out.  It is good if they are raised with them and imprint with them, but I wouldn't leave the pup alone with them.  Hope this helps,
