ears- German Shepard

my shepard is 3 mo. Jan. 31 07- DOB his left ear stands up ok and the right ear only comes up on alert. they both flap around when running, like there is no control. he is on Pro Plan large breed puppy food. What can cause his ears not to be up. He is very smart and his family is almost all award winning police K-9.

Some dogs are just a little slow.  They nearly all come up eventually.  Some people resort to taping or gluing, but I doubt that does much good.  What might help is an early switch to adult chow.  Even the large breed formulations may have so much calcium that it interferes with the body's ability to absorb it.  It is definitely better for their hips, slowing growth and allowing more time to develop sturdy joints.
