Question
my cousin has just brought a 2month old border collie called ollie its mum and dad were show dogs but its dad was quite nasty i was enquiring wheather this would effect ollie behaviour and also they are having trouble toilet training

Answer
Hi Tara,
Yes, it is a good idea to prevent aggressive behavior before it begins.  There is a good chance that Ollie will not take on this trait as much of the pups patterned behavior is from its mother.
I do not really have enough detail to know if your cousin is working with the pup and what she is doing to train the pup in not "going" inside the house.
I can suggest the usual methods that should work for toilet training the pup... feed on a regular schedule then IMMEDIATELY take the pup outside and using the same word or words say something like "Go Outside" so the pup will associate those words with going outside to urinate and defecate.  Then when the pup does go praise the pup saying "good potty outside (or whatever words you want the pup to associate with)".  If your cousin is away much of the day, crate training is a great idea.  This forces the dog in a tiny area and Usually the dog will not "go" in the crate where it has to lay down.  Make sure to also let the pup know it was bad by showing it the area where the accident occurred and repeating the same word with "NO" said sternly. Take the pup IMMEDIATELY outside and say the same word or words you are using when you take the pup outside to "go" and praise the pup with good behavior if it urinates or defecates outside.
I did not mention it before, however; it is a good idea to take the pup to the same place to "go".  This scents the area and within a short period of time the pup will respond to "Go Outside" by heading for the door and going to that spot.
Here is a website that I know will be of help to you and your cousin that deals with many training issues.

Training does not have to be difficult but instead it can be fun for the dog and the owner.
