Border Collies As Pets, Not Working Dogs

Question
Is there anyone in North Carolina who breeds Border Collies for "Pet" temperment, rather than "Working Dog" temperment?  I love, admire "working" Border Collies, but live in a two bedroom apartment with porch. Jim, Charlotte, N.C.

Answer
Hi,
I don't have knowledge of the Border Collie breeders specifically because I am a standard Collie breeder.  However for the rest of your question I do have some advice. Border Collies as you seem to indicate you are aware, are very high energy dogs and require lots of exercise to stay sane.  If you must have a Border Collie, please choose your puppy carefully and try to find the most laid back and gentle personality possible.  In your situation, a Standard Collie or Sheltie might suit your living quarters and needs better. A Sheltie can also be high energy but they are easier to live with in smaller spaces. A standard Collie is not as rambunctious once out of puppy stage.
