Question
We have a 2year 5 month old Border Collie and he seems finicky with food what is the best thing to feed to him are just dog biscuits sufficient or does he need more, he doesn't seem to like dog food in tins of course likes home cooked burgers, tu;rkey chicken.

How much food does he need a day

I just want to be sure he's getting what he needs.

Thank you

Answer
Rosemary,

I always fed my dogs Purina dry dog food or Science Diet dry dog food.  If they didn't finish their food, I would put a little something special on it like a little bit of gravy or mix in some left over meat.

Normally puppies need food available to them all day long up until a few hours before bedtime.  Older dogs can get by with about 1 or 2 cups of food a day depending on the brand of dog food.  Most bags of dog food will give recommendations on the back.  Otherwise, call your vet and ask for his recommendation.

If you are very concerned about his vitamin intake, you can get doggie vitamins.  I sell a special brand of doggie vitamins through one of my websites, so get back to me if you're interested in getting the web address.  Otherwise, your vet may also sell some too.

I would not rely on dog biscuits as his sole supply of nutrients.
