Question
I have a five month old male border collie. We got him from a pet store when he was six weeks of age from a litter of 6. He's had all his vaccinations and he's a lovely natured dog but when he takes food that he's not supposed to have he results in aggressive behavior such as biting and growling but this is the only time he shows any aggression towards me. I can remove his food bowl and place my hand in his food bowl and he has no problem with that and will let me willingly do it as many times as I please. He gets enough exercise roughly 2 hours a day also. This has always been a problem but now he's getting his adult teeth it's becoming a real problem. What should I do?

Answer
Hello Zarah,

I'm not sure how your pup is able to get a hold of food he's not supposed to, but if he believes it was for him, he'll naturally guard it.  Your pup should still be eating puppy food at this point.  Puppies need food available all day.  If he's an indoor pup, you'll want to feed him at least 3 times a day and make sure to take him outside as soon as he finishes his bowl.

Thank you for your question.
