change in Labs bowel movement

Question
Hi,

My 11 yr old lab has been moving his bowels in the middle of the night as he sleeps. He has no knowledge of his release. Also, lately  he  has been walking and relieving himself; both bowel and urine. I don't know if he is aware of that.
Is this a sign of old age? And how do I know when it's "time".

Thanx for your help
Lisa

Answer
11 years isn't that old for a Lab.  Before giving up on him, have the vet check him over.

When is one of the toughest questions a dog owner faces.  One big factor is the quality of life of the dog.  Is he still enjoying life?  If he isn't enjoying life, seems upset about fouling himself, and is a burden to you, then it is time.  But let the vet check him first.  He could have some more good years.

My Aster was doing well at 12, but has had one bout of pneumonia after another this year.  Still, she is enjoying life.
