Question
My 6 month old male Chihuahua all of a sudden tonight
started acting dizzy.  His head is bobbing like the room is
spinning and he would stumble a tad bit.  He wouls still
eat and jusmp on the couch and he is aware of his
surroundings but not quite right.  He is resting now under
the covers in bed.  I am wondering if I should take him to
the emergency vet or see how he is in the morning.  He is
not vomiting or  having any diarrhea.  I did just put a bit
of honey on the roof of is mouth in case of hypoglacimia
but he has never had a problem like that before.  I am
really nervous !!! I love him so much and don't want to
make a mistake.

Answer
How long ago did this start and did it start right after eating?  How did he do after you put the honey on the roof of his mouth?  That was quick thinking on your part, but if he's still not acting "normal", I think you need to have him seen sooner than later. Personally, I use Karo syrup or Nutrical if I think I'm dealing with hypoglycemia.  Those are things you might want to keep on hand, too.

Another possibility of what this can be is a complication due to a liver shunt or multiple liver shunts.  Did he have a fall or bump on the head?  Of course, it could also be due to his having gotten into something toxic.  If it were me, I would most probably go to the ER and at least have blood work run and have him examined.  No one can give you an idea of what this is due to without a proper examination.  If he did get into something toxic, having him seen in a timely manner is imperative.

Please write back and let me know how he's doing and what the vet said.
