English bulldog peeing in crate and sleeping on it

Question
I have a 5 month old english bulldog.  It's been almost 3 weeks since I got
him and luckily I have break from school so I can spend this entire month
training him.  I take him outside very often, yet he continues to pee in his
crate.  His crate is not too big that he can pee and avoid it so when he does
pee in his crate he sits/sleeps on it.  I do not lock his crate so he can come
out to pee on a pee pad if he can't hold his pee, yet he continues to pee in his
crate.  I thought dogs avoided peeing in their crates because they do not like
to lie near their secretion.  How can I stop him from peeing in his crate?

Answer
This is a habit that he's gotten into unfortunately. Remove everything from his crate except a toy perhaps and let him sleep on the bare pan. Pick up his water no later than 6 p.m. and let him out as late as possible to pee.

Bulldogs aren't just any dog. They're little pigs and don't mind at all sleeping in their own mess.

You're just going to have to be patient with him until you can break this pattern of behavior.
