Question
I have a 7 month old boxer named Sophia and a 3.5 year old male named Bean, and I recently changed her food to Chicken Soup Large Breed Puppy Holistic. My question is I have heard that since Chicken Soup and Diamond are produced by the Diamond company and they had ALL of their foods contaminated with aflatoxin, and I am worried that recontamination could occur. Is this a good food for her or should I switch to a different brand? She is my baby and I want to best for her. I would like to have her on a holistic or organic diet if possible. I also feed them Merricks canned food as a treat.

Answer
Hi Mikka,

Boxers aren't large breeds and don't need a large breed food :)  You'd be able to safely switch to a regular formula.  You can also switch her over to adult food. 7-8 months is the best time.

I am with you on the contamination.  Mine did really well on CS but I took them off when Diamond had the recall.  However, the last recall was tremendously worse and involved darn near every food.  Feeding any commercially packaged food is a risk...if they're doing well on the CS formula, stick with it.

The only thing I would suggest is that if you want to switch foods so that you feel safer, find a food that is produced using ingredients in the USA as most of the contamination has occurred (aside from Diamond) with corn/wheat supplied by China. You can email the companies and ask who their suppliers are and then look into those companies.

I have thought of switching to Newman's Own as they're all organic and give a portion of their proceeds to charity, however, it's not available in my area as of yet.

If there's a food you're thinking of switching to, and you need help researching them, let me know.  I'd be happy to help.
