Question
I HAVE A 4M. OLD BOXER PUP RECENTLY TX. BY VET FOR CYSTITIS. ON ANTIBIOTICS X 6 DAYS. VET THINKS THIS IS A GENETIC PROBLEM FROM SOMETHING THAT DID NOT DEVELOP PRIOR TO BIRTH. PUP STILL VOIDING VERY FREQUENTLY BUT NO MORE BLOOD NOTED IN URINE. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Answer
Since your vet said "genetic" call the breeder you got the pup from and ask questions. Maybe they know something about the genetics before the parents that can help.

So you are saying the pup voids frequently and had blood in urine? Or bowels? Or both?

But now, the vet has the pup on antibiotics for 6 days and no more blood?

IF it WERE "GENETIC" then "WHY" would a vet put the pup on an antibiotic?

Antibiotics are for infections whether bacterial or viral. Not for a "genetic" disorder.

I highly suggest seeking another vet. Please. This vet doesn't seem too up on medicine to do the antibiotic treatment for a "genetic" disorder.

Use common sense. Since when do our doctors treat us with an antibiotic when we say, have diabetes? They don't.

Get a new vet. Ask friends and relatives, neighbors, co-workers, etc. what vet they use and recommend. Call vets. Ask if that vet(s) are Boxer savvy... they MUST BE!!!! (and explain the problem)

Then once you have selected the vet, get there ASAP and re-run tests, run more appropriate tests, etc.

If it is a kidney disorder, then the puppy must be on a special kidney puppy food diet. The vet has a special K/D (Kidney Diet) blend just for that purpose. If it is a kidney problem, care is needed and to watch at all times. No treats or foods outside that K/D food ... but ask your vet what foods and treats you can give that won't irritate the kidneys.

I had a cat with kidney failure and feed him Science Diet K/D for cats and he lived 2 more years perfectly healthy. (He was 13)... so this is crucial...

Monitoring is needed for awhile until under better control, and caution on other foods (table scraps, etc.) is to be heeded at all times.

It could even be a food allergy that causes the frequent urination and blood. Special food/diet might be all you need. It could be diabetes. Who knows. It could be a simple urinary infection in which antibiotics  can clear up. But the blood is the worry.

Get to a NEW vet ASAP.
