Boxer female in labor

Question
I read a couple of questions and answers on here about boxer labor, and my 1 1/2
yr old female is pregnant and when I took her temp last night it was 98.1 and
this morning it was 97.9.Also she is panting, digging and shivering, the only
thing is that I have not seen the mucus plug come out.I did have class last
night and am not sure if she might have lost it when my husband let her out last
night. After the plug is gone will she discharge any fluid?  Sould I be worried?
Should I call her vet? This is her first litter as well as mine.We are not what some will call a backyard breeder. We love both our boxers like they are our own children. Unfortunatly we thought she was finished with her heat because she was no longer bleeding , and we turned our backs for 2 seconds and oops.

Answer
Hi Jessica,

With her temperature drop and her panting etc., she will likely whelp within the next 24 hours.  You may not see the mucus plug come out.  I would call the vet to let them know whelping is imminent and to put them on 'stand-by'.  She may discharge some fluid, watery and light green is not unusual. Thick, dark green fluid, or lots of red blood, may be a warning sign.

Without knowing what you've done or read so far, it's hard to get into details about what to expect - you've obviously done some research so I don't want to repeat things. :)  There is some information on whelping with pictures (which are often quite helpful!) on this site (links along the left side):

Good luck!
