Question
Hi...we have a 17 month old boxer that is very pregant with her first litter of pups...(did not mean for this to happen this time..lol)  Anyway...She has gotten to where she wont do anything...she justlays around and walks really slow, also..today she hasn't been eating as normal and she has had an upset stomach today also...was wondering if this is a sign of labor or prelabor in her.  thanks...any advice and info will be greatly appreciated.

Answer
You didn't tell me how many days she is pregnant.

Whelping is between 58-63 days.

If she isn't eating and laying around, upset stomach, etc. take her to your vet.

He should do x-rays or a sonar gram to determine how many puppies, how big, and her term (how far along she is).

Prepare a whelping box for her to have the puppies in and a place for the puppies when born.

Google and research "whelping" and whelping boxes and supplies." I made mine out of a large air conditioner or large heater box, (call an air conditoning company and ask for one)and cut out an opening for mom to get in and out of, but lipped so the puppies couldn't get out.

There is a lot of preparation that goes on for whelping.

Take her to your vet immediately.
