Female boxer jumping fence

Question
QUESTION: I have a female boxer, age 3 that I cannot contain.  She has jumped ever fence I have put her in including an electric shock fence.  We have moved to a house with a wonderful yard for my dogs, but near highways.  If she gets out of this yard there is a very high possibility that she will get hit by a car.  Right now she is on an extremely long chain (cannot get close to the fence though) inside the yard.  Do you have any other ideas for me in order to keep her in?  She is not climbing the fence, by the way, and she does not need a running start.  She jumps many times until she is high enough to put her feet on the top of the fence and then she goes on over.

ANSWER: Hi Jennie...

What a pain in the butt!  Been through it.  What kind of fencing do you have?

QUESTION: The house we have just moved into has a chainlink fence standard height.  I haven't bothered hooking up the electric fence here since that didn't bother her enough to keep her in at the last house.

Answer
Hi Jennie,

Thanks for your reply.  There are two standard heights to chain link fences...3 ft. and 4 ft.  Which you have is really neither here nor there as she's jumping it.  ;)

I recently had to reinforce my fence to prevent mine from going under but what I did will help you out as well.

I bought privacy panels (wood fencing, about $26 a piece at Lowe's) and attached them to the outside of the chain link using wire fence ties.  Not so pretty from the inside but looks fine from the outside.  I also attached chicken wire to the bottom of the chain link and buried it a foot underground.

If you can't afford to or don't want to do this...you can attach lattice to the top of the fence somehow (if you or your partner are handy).

Other than that, keeping her on a tie out is the only option.  Ditch the chain.  If you're going to continue to use a tie out, get one that hangs from above...you can attach the line to two trees, the house and a shed, etc.  Many, many dogs have been injured getting wrapped up in tie outs that come up from the ground.

You didn't say if she does this while you are out with her as well.  If she doesn't, you only letting her out while you supervise would help as well.
