Question
i just recently as of yesterday became a boxer owner, i rescued a 2 year old gyp
from my local shelter. I have her as an outside dog is that bad? She seems to be
really really depressed or sad and shows no personality at all. I have no idea
what to do about it, please help!

Answer
Hi. Boxers are people dogs, they need to be around their people. I would highly suggest bringing this girl inside. As for her being depressed, it'll take some time for her to get use to you and your home. You'll really have to work with this girl to gain her trust, and make her feel welcome. Use treats! Sit quietly close to her, speak softly, and offer treats. I don't know what her previous home was like, if she was abused or what, but abused dogs usually need more time than other dogs to come around to their new home. They're scared. Don't rush her, let her come around at her own pace, but just be there and try to engage her, show her that she's not going to be hurt there. She'll come around eventually. I really do suggest bringing this girl inside so she can get to know you and your family better, they do better when around their people. If left on their own, they can be distructive. I don't know what type of fencing you have, but Boxers are known to jump, or find their way out of a fence. One thing about her age, older dogs may take a little bit longer to come around than a puppy. I promise you it's worth the wait. Congrats on your new girl, and bless you for taking this girl in.
