Question
What are you thoughts on feeding our 3 year old male raw food.  I've read about and have a friend who swears by it.  If you agree, how much by weight per day, including bones.

Thanks

Answer
Many Boxers do quite well on a raw diet (including my own!).  It is more than just raw meat, though - which I believe you understand as you mention bones, but it's an important point as an improperly-fed raw diet can be very problematic.

Generally speaking an adult dog would eat 2-3% of its body weight per day.  There are a few different schools of thought on how this should be divided up, between raw meaty bones, raw muscle meat, offal, and fruits/vegetables.  The best book on the subject, IMO, is Carina Beth MacDonald's "Raw Dog Food: Make it Easy for You and Your Dog".  She discusses the various plans but promotes an individual approach - what works for one dog might not work as well for another.  (For example, my dogs seem to need some vegetable matter every few days; others never get vegetables and are fine with that.)

I have a couple of articles on raw diets on my site:
