When dog is in labor

Question
I have a brindle female and male boxer who are fixing to be parents.  Do I need to separate the male from her when she goes in labor?

Answer
Yes.

Provide her with a quite whelping place where no traffic is and the male cannot get to.

I hope you have made or provided a whelping box for her and prepared with a whelping kit and have clean linens for the mom and new puppies when whelping is over.

I hope you have studied the whelping process and how to care for newborn puppies.

They need to be put into a safe basket with an electric heating pad when born (and as she is having another puppy during the whelping) and then, when finished, place them with mom in a clean whelping box with heat provided.

Newborn puppies cannot control their body temperatures for a week or two. They must be kept warm without drafts or they will die.

Please Google whelping and how to care for newborn puppies if you haven't already.

She will be aggressive to the male and not want him near the puppies for a month or so.
