Question
QUESTION: My 3 year old in tacked Boston Terrior will not stop humping my sons 1 1/2 year old neutered beagle. He acts like the beagle is a female in heat. What should we do.My son has moved home so there is no avoiding the beagle.

ANSWER: Hi Cindy:  Sorry, this won't stop because of Dominence and hormones:

The only solution is to have him neutered... This can help most of the humping. ( also, some behavior training)

Consider neutering. Male dogs that hump may have increased testosterone levels. Studies have found that neutering stops humping in 60 percent of the cases.

Here is a great link for re-training a dog that has been humping:
They have a good section on behaviors..

Best wishes with this.... Have fun!
You can use a spray water bottle ever time he starts to hump the other dog...

QUESTION: Marie,
neutering is not a option since Buddy is the stud for my female Bostons. We will try the spray bottle. We heard some times beagle release a scent that can trigger the humping from a male dog. any thoughts?

Answer
Oh, I understand your situation.  The water bottle may work.. Just give a good squirt into his face.  Put some very cold water into the bottle.  Don't let it get room temp.  ( if possible)

As far as your Beagle, don't know too much about a scent they may have.  I would have to do some research on that.

You can go to the Behavior experts on this site.  They may be of more help on this.... Wish I could help you more.
