Question
My daughter has a beagle mix puppy.  At eight weeks it weighs 6 pounds 9 ounces.  Does this sound about right? We are hoping she won't be too big (more than 40 pounds)

Answer
Hello Marilyn!
That is about right. At two months that sounds about right.8 weeks is the minimum age a puppy should leave its mother so that is about in the neighborhood of the kind of weight you want it to be. Beagles are hereditary for being obese, so you always want to watch that. Make sure to only feed the puppy twice a day with portions of one cup. If by any chance it did being to gain hard weight, you would want to feed it science diet with green beans. If the puppy was the "runt" of the litter than she won't get big at all. My beagle is the runt and females always weigh less than males. The average female beagle only ways from 18-31 pounds. Mine is at a year and a half and she is the runt and she weighs around 15 pounds. I think that you beagle is at a safe weight for her age. If you have anymore questions please don't hesitate to ask! Good luck!
