Question
QUESTION: I have taken my cat to the vet several times for this problem that has just arose in the last month but nothing is working! My cat will urinate in her litter boxes but when she eliminates fecal matter she does it on the floor in a room where her litter boxes are.Shes an only cat. 3 litter boxes all over the house. She just started to refuse going #2 in the litter box.Nothing has changed, litter, food everything is the same.Shes 100% healthy i had her checked by 2 vets.I clean the area with resolve pet care and then shampoo it with pet eliminating odor Bissell carpet shampoo. Any suggestions??

ANSWER: Hello Misty,

I am glad you have had her checked over and that all is well.  Is she by chance declawed?  You mention that nothing has changed for her, have *you* been doing anything different?  Away from home more, a recent vaccation etc?  What do the stools look like, is she possibly constipated?

As you can see I need more info to try and help :)

QUESTION: She is 4 paw declawed since she was a kitten...as for me nothing has changed no vacations, and I'm home a lot during the day on and off and at night all night with her. Her stool is good I had taken that into the vet and it was healthy yet they gave me antibiotics to try just in case she had some bacteria but after 2 days of giving her that she had diarrhea and so i quit giving her that.

Answer
Hello Misty,

It is very common for cats that are declawed to wind up with litterbox problems.  They associate the pain of the surgery with the box, digging to cover up thier stool causes an extreme amount of pain after the surgery and it sticks with them.

You can try a litter called cat attract but first I would use some flat newspaper to line the box, or you can use puppy pads, these are more absorbant.  This will require daily changing but it will at least have her going where she should.  The reason for this is to give her a flat surface that doesn't require digging and is differen't enough not to associate with the surgery.

Here are some links to read more about the issue's declawed cats have with the litterbox. http://www.de-clawing.com/

Hope this helps,
