Question
QUESTION: we have had out norwegian forest since he was 13 weeks old, he was all litter trained and everything was fine, he is now 9 months old and for the last 4 weeks he has really started to play up, first he was peeing everywhere,on laudry, on rug, on sofa, i managed to control that then he started soiling just outside his litter tray, on the kitchen tiles which are hard.

i havent changed to litter, i havent moved his litter box, its is always clean, i clean soiled areas up with a proper odour eliminator.

we are a big family, but this was told to the breeder when had interest in him, and she suggested that he would be the best kitten for us out of the litter, because his temprement would be well suited to out family, and she was right up until a few weeks ago.
i have tried everything and really do not know what else to do, the family are getting very upset and if it carrys on, i will have think about giving him.
could it be that he acually doesnt like a big family, he does tend to want sit alone upstairs, recently he did pounce on my daughter as she walked in to the room for no reason whatsoever,  i just cant work out what his problem might be.
he doesnt like to go i the garden either.
Any help would be much appreciated
bobby

ANSWER: Bobby,

He sounds like he is very upset at somebody or something. It may be that the 'big' family is overwhelming to him.

He also could have urinary stones. They are VERY painful and they go everywhere but the litterbox because they associate the pain with the litterbox. Usually they are caused by too much fish and fish products which are too high in magnesium. If he does have stones and they are not treated they will cause a blockage which is always fatal to male cats. You might want to take him to a vet for a checkup to rule out a medical problem causing his behavior.

He may also be lonely. You should think about getting a kitty friend for him. All cats need a friend to play kitty games with and snuggle with.

I am including a link with some very good articles about improper elimination. You may find these helpful. Copy and paste, or type, the whole link into your address bar:

QUESTION: i did try something, after all this, i took him to my mothers house and asked if she could look after him for 2 days, he stayed there with no problems, used the litter tray, for both peeing and soiling with no problems, my mothers house is quiet its just her and my dad, but they do have 7 cats and he was fine, he never had an accident once!  it seems to me that it may be the hustle and bustle of my house that might be upsetting him, what do you think, and what should i do to settle him back in our house hold, i would really love to keep him, but he would have to settle, help!!

Answer
Bobby,

I think you answered your own question about what is upsetting him. If he is not adapting to the hustle and bustle at your house, he may not ever. And forcing him to is not going to help. Litterbox accidents are a way of giving you a message. Cat like to be alone, even with other cats. So maybe a cat isn't the best pet for a busy household.
