cat wrestling

Question
We have 6 animals in the house, two of each: guinea pigs (not caged), dogs, and cats. Everybody is getting along just fine. Today we observed several instances of cat wrestling and  we don't know what to make of it. Our older cat is almost two years of age (female, altered, not declawed, we've had her since she was 2 weeks old); our younger cat (also female, not altered, not declawed, living with us for 3 weeks now) is 3 months old. The cats were sharing the toys before, slept on the same couch, chased each other playfully, but never wrestled. This "hugging" and "lying locked in each other's embrace" started today. They don't seem to mind, we checked for possible injuries and there were none, but the process looks a bit scary (maybe because we never saw it before). Is it normal? Should we be concerned that those playfights might go bad? Should we separate them? My older cat loved to wrestle with one of the dogs, but the dog never responded but rather tolerated everything the cat did to him. The younger cat responds and sometimes even originates those fights.
Thank you very much for your response.

Answer
Hello, om!

You don't have to worry about a thing.  What you're describing as fights isn't as such.  It's them playing...completely and totally playing.  This is the highest form of play, too, and it's an indicator that you're kitties are really in the throng of play and having SUCH a good time!

In fact, when you checked them over for injuries, they probably wondered why you were so concerned...hehe...can you imagine?  How cute...

I think it's really sweet that you were so concerned...that shows you are an excellent cat mommy or daddy!  That's wonderful!

Yes, it does look scary, but I can assure you that nothing's wrong in the least...in fact, it's an indicator that they're really comfortable and happy in their environment!  :o)

Just sit back, relax, and enjoy watching your babies have a good time.  :o)

Hugs!!  :o)
