Question
I am the oh-so-proud new Mommy of two unrelated kittens (from two different shelters).  Both are about 13 weeks old.  They are spoiled rotten and have toys and plenty of attention!

1.  When they play together, which they prefer to do, they bite and scratch.  I can't tell if they are hurting each other.  They are equally dominate in play.  How can you tell when play fighting has gone too far?  Is there a sign like a dog's tail wagging to indicate play?

2.  Both were sick when we got them (Murphy had bloody stool, an eye infection, and needed antibiotics, eye gel, and vitamins; Connor had ear mites, worms, a fever, and needed antibiotics, ear drops, and vitamins).  They seem healthy now.  How can you tell when they are happy- truly happy?  They are really affectionate and purr a lot and like to sleep on or near us.

Is there anything we can do to improve there lives?  I love them and made a commitment to them and want to give them a good life.

Answer
1. they will stop when the play gets too rough. it is a part of growing up and determining the top cat position.dont worry about it. but if you think it is getting to be too much, break them up, just seperate them by a few feet.

2.well, cats purr even when they are sick, but i would say if they are healthy, and eating well and using the litter box well and playing then they are happy. it doesnt take much to make cats happy.

Keep in mind that ADULT cats sleep like 20 hours a day..not in one stretch tho..kittens can gain weight until they are an adult at 2yrs of age and their eyes can change color till they are 2 yrs old too. if you want them to have a happy care free life , make sure they are neutered/spayed, but since you got them from shelters they probably already are. if they are male, watch out for them tryin....i say TRYING. to pee anywhere but the litter box as that is the first sign of urinary tract infection and a simple vet visit will take care of it. if you want to avoid that all together, feed them a food for urinary tract health. and you should know males are prone to urinary tract infection , but not all males get it. hehehehehe...um need any more information? just hug and kiss them alot and let them have what they want and do what they want and they will be happy.
