cat behavior (from Brazil)

Question
How are you? First I would like to apologize for my poor English. My cat spayed female Maine Coon, with 7 years, exhibits the behavior of urinating on me or near me. This occurs about once a year. Started about 6 years. What can be? This behavior happens in quiet moments, no stress, usually when I'm stroking her or the times in which she knead soft things with his front paws around me. Thank you, Leysa (from Brazil).

Answer
Hi Leysa

It is hard to answer this one without me asking many more questions, witnessing the behaviour, seeing what both you and she are doing just before this occurs and also seeing what environmental factors are involved at the time of the problem behaviour. The fact that she only does this once or twice a year suggests that this is probably not causing you too much stress and therfore is not causing you such a huge problem that you are desperately needing it to stop.

Unless this behaviour starts to happen much more frequently I would suggest not doing anything about it. But if it does start to happen more frequently then I would get her checked by a vet, to eliminate any medical reason such as cystitis etc. If the vet gives her a clean bill of health then I would actually hire a behaviourist to come to your house, meet you and your cat and gather much more information to be able to give you a definitive answer as to why this is happening.

I am sorry I could'nt help you further, but this really is something that would take much more investigating to get to the bottom of why she exhibits this behaviour.

Thank you

Kelly
