Cat ate a mouse

Question
Hello!

My 2 year old male cat, Jazz, killed a mouse last night, and my Dad was unable to get it from him, so he eventually gave up and went to work.  This was before anyone else was up.  Later, the mouse was no where to be found, so we think Jazz may have eaten it.  If this is the case, should we take Jazz to the vet for shots, or to be dewormed?  He had all his shots, deworming, etc about a year and a half ago.

Thanks a lot!

Bethany

Answer
Hello Bethany

Jazz has done one of two things with the mouse he caught and killed, he either ate it, or has hidden it somewhere, so he can play with it or eat it later, gruesome I know! But this is simply natural behaviour for a cat.

Cats that are vaccinated need to have a 'booster' vaccination at the same time once a year, although he should'nt be at much risk of contracting the types of disease and virus that he is vaccinated against. Although this said, he can become ill from other things such as an upset tummy and worms.

Cats need to be de-wormed every 2-3 months and de-flea'd every 4-6 weeks (depending on the product you use). So I would suggest you give him a worming tablet and some flea treatment.

I would'nt worry Bethany as I am sure he will be fine, but keep a close eye on him anyway to be on the safe side.

I hope this has helped you a little.

Thank you
