Tooth problem

Question
Hi Lisa------

I have a 7 yr old male cat. I think he may have a tooth problem.

He continues to hit the side of his face after he eats even though he eats wet food.  He has been slobbering some also........he does continue to eat though but now at almost every meal he hits his face as though something is caught on his tooth.  He is very agressive and will not let me look in his mouth......and this also will cause alot of problems at the vet since he does not like going at all and is impossible to handle. We thought it was something to do with the extreme heat but now it seems as though he does it right after eating or while he is eating.

Do you think this may be his tooth?  And would they knock him out to look at it at the vets?  We tried last time for his shot to give him a sedative but it did not work.......I just hate it when they have four people trying to hold this little cat down.......he is a mess for days afterwards so I try to avoid the vets at all cost.......

I do brush his teeth and he does also eat dry food and dry snacks.

Thank you for giving your time.......I also volunteer on this site.........

Answer
well sounds like it might be a tooth problem , but if you brush his teeth i would think he would let you know at that time that its a sensitive tooth.

the vet will only put him to sleep if you have them to clean his teeth and do other dental proceedures.

if he is letting you brush his teeth, that is the time you need to try to look at the teeth on that side as well. it may be nothing at all or just that the food is hitting a nerve in his gum. i wish i had more answers for you. im sorry
