Question
MY DAUGHTERS 16 YEAR OLD CAT HAD A SLIGHT EYE INFECTION AND VET PRESCRIBED CEFADROXIL.  AFTER 2 DOSES, SHE IS ACTING LETHARGIC AND GROWLING AT NOTHING.  SHE IS BEING CLOSELY WATCHED, AND SHE FEELS IT IS A REACTION TO THE MED.

Answer
Personally, I haven't seen this reaction to cefadroxil, though I HAVE seen it cause serious belly aches in numerous cats, which could lead to lethargy and growling, just because of the stomach pain.  But any cat could have a reaction to any medication, so definitely have your daughter call the vet.  It could be the medication should be changed.  There are plenty of other antibiotics suitable for treating upper respiratory infections (the primary cause of eye infections).  Or, it may be her illness is worsening or her illness has left her unable to fight other diseases which have now crept in, in which case some additional testing or treatments might be needed.  For instance, a cat suffering borderline kidney failure may be able to keep the disease at bay until they get sick with another illness.  Then the body is left too weak to compensate for the kidney failure, and clinical signs start to appear.
